Opportunities From: Women in Cleantech & Sustainability

Volunteer: WordPress Job Board Designer & Developer

We are looking for someone with hands-on experience building and customizing WordPress websites!

The Project:

WCS is looking for a volunteer to design and build an improved Job Board that lives directly on our existing WordPress website! Our goal is to go beyond a basic list of openings and create a visually engaging, intuitive job-discovery experience where visitors can easily browse, search, sort, and filter opportunities.

Employers will submit opportunities to WCS through a form. The volunteer will help us determine the best way to structure that information within WordPress and turn it into an attractive, searchable Job Board that WCS staff can easily maintain after the initial build.

The final solution should ideally include:

A clean, visually appealing job listing page Individual job cards with key information at a glance Keyword search

Filtering and/or sorting by location, remote/hybrid/on-site status, job function or category, employment type, and experience or seniority level

Individual job detail pages or expanded listing views Employer logos

Featured or promoted job listings

Clear links to apply directly with the employer

Easy sharing of individual job opportunities

Mobile-responsive design

A straightforward workflow for WCS staff to review submitted jobs and publish approved opportunities

We would also love to explore functionality that allows users to save/bookmark jobs or email jobs to themselves or others, depending on what is feasible within the recommended solution.

What You’ll Do:

Review our existing WordPress website and Job Board workflow

Help define the structure and fields needed for job listings

Recommend the best technical approach for building the Job Board

Determine where existing WordPress tools or plugins can be used and where customization may be beneficial

Design and build the Job Board interface Configure search, filters, sorting, and other functionality

Connect the job submission process to an efficient publishing workflow

Test the experience across desktop and mobile devices

Document the basic process for WCS staff to add, edit, feature, and remove jobs

Help ensure the solution can be maintained by WCS after the project is complete

Relevant skills may include:

WordPress development and customization

HTML and CSS Responsive web design

WordPress custom post types and taxonomies

Custom fields and structured content

Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), Meta Box, Pods, or similar tools

Creating searchable and filterable WordPress content

Integrating WordPress forms with site content and publishing workflows

Experience evaluating, configuring, and customizing WordPress plugins

Basic understanding of website accessibility, performance, and security best practices

Highly Desirable:

PHP

JavaScript

AJAX-based search or filtering

Faceted search and filtering tools

WordPress job board, directory, or listing plugins

Gravity Forms, WPForms, Formidable Forms, or similar form tools

UX/UI design for search, directory, marketplace, or job-board experiences

Creating workflows that allow nontechnical staff to easily add and manage structured content

You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We are most interested in someone who understands WordPress well, can think through both the technical architecture and user experience, and can recommend a practical approach that WCS can maintain over time.

Volunteer: WCS Talks Unplugged Instagram Community Connector

WCS Talks Unplugged Podcast Team - Instagram Community Connector

Help WCS Talks Unplugged become part of more of the conversations that matter! The Instagram Community Connector will grow the podcast’s visibility and relationships through consistent, thoughtful engagement on Instagram.

This is not a content-creation or feed-posting role. Instead, the volunteer will interact with people and organizations across the climate, cleantech, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and podcast communities on behalf of WCS Talks Unplugged.

Time Commitment:  At least one hour each day, Monday through Friday. The daily hour may be divided into shorter engagement sessions. Because Instagram’s engagement features are primarily mobile, this role requires using the Instagram app on a personal smartphone.

Responsibilities:

Engage from the official WCS Talks Unplugged Instagram account for at least 60 minutes each weekday.

Find and follow relevant accounts, including women working in cleantech and sustainability, podcast guests, prospective guests, founders, industry leaders, partner organizations, and aligned podcasts.

Like and leave thoughtful, substantive comments on relevant posts.

Respond to appropriate comments on WCS Talks Unplugged posts using the podcast’s established voice.

Share and reshare relevant content to Instagram Stories in accordance with WCS guidelines.

Engage with podcast guests before, during, and after their episodes are released.

Help introduce the podcast to new audiences through authentic participation in relevant conversations.

Flag potential guests, partners, sponsors, content opportunities, questions, and sensitive interactions for the podcast team.

Maintain a simple record of activity, observations, and promising accounts or opportunities.

Protect account access and follow all WCS privacy and security procedures.

What This Role Does Not Include:

Creating, scheduling, or publishing posts to the Instagram feed

Designing graphics or writing episode captions

Developing the podcast’s overall social media strategy

Making commitments on behalf of WCS

Responding to sensitive messages, complaints, partnership inquiries, or policy questions without direction

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal volunteer:

Is comfortable and active on Instagram

Enjoys connecting with people and participating in online conversations

Writes warm, natural, and professional comments

Can recognize the difference between meaningful engagement and spammy activity

Has strong judgment and knows when to respond, when to pause, and when to escalate Is interested in women’s leadership, cleantech, climate, sustainability, entrepreneurship, or podcasting

Is reliable and able to maintain a consistent Monday–Friday routine

Is comfortable accessing the WCS Talks Unplugged account from a personal smartphone

Can handle account access and private information responsibly

Social media, community management, communications, or podcast experience is helpful but not required.

Training, engagement guidelines, and examples will be provided.

What Success Looks Like:

WCS Talks Unplugged maintains an active, thoughtful presence throughout the week.

More relevant people and organizations discover and engage with the podcast. Guests feel supported and amplified. Comments sound personal and specific—not automated or generic. New relationships, guest possibilities, collaborations, and audience-growth opportunities are identified. The account grows through genuine community participation rather than follow-for-follow tactics.

What You’ll Gain:

Hands-on experience growing an established climate and sustainability podcast

Practical experience in digital community engagement and relationship-based marketing

Greater exposure to women leaders, founders, and organizations across the sector

An opportunity to contribute to the visibility of women’s voices in cleantech and sustainability

Volunteer hours that may be applied toward earning a WCS membership in accordance with WCS volunteer program guidelines

Technology and Account Access: The volunteer will use their personal smartphone to access the official WCS Talks Unplugged Instagram account through an approved access method. They must maintain a secure device, protect all account information, follow WCS security instructions, and immediately report a lost device or suspected account compromise. Applicants will never be asked to provide WCS with access to their personal Instagram account.
