On occasion, WCS requires assistance or expertise on special, ad hoc projects. These projects are typically short-term and independent of committees or events. 

Special Projects are great for volunteers who have a special expertise (e.g., legal, non-profit management, data management, clerical/administrative, etc.) or who are looking for a role in the short term.

Special Project: WCS Merch Store 

We are seeking a volunteer to reimagine and relaunch the WCS Merch Store in Q1 of 2026. The ideal candidate offers:

Plan on about 2 to 3 hours per week for 2 to 3 months.

The hub of all WCS local chapters, the WCS Chapter Committee supports existing chapters and develops new local chapters to expand opportunities for women to participate and benefit in their local communities.

There are three types of roles on the committee:

The Career Development Committee produces programming to help women expand their networks and develop leadership skills. The committee offers Executive Leadership and Mentorship programs and events that equip our community with effective business skills.

The Marketing Committee expands the brand awareness and standing of WCS in the cleantech and sustainability sectors and contributes to the growth of WCS through strategic marketing and the promotion of programs and events.

The Fundraising Committee drives fundraising and revenue-generation initiatives that support WCS’s mission of advancing women’s roles in the green economy. Through strategic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, and donor relationships, this committee provides the resources necessary to sustain and expand WCS’s impact.

The Finance Committee works with the WCS Board of Directors (BOD) on the day-to-day finances and the financial strategic plan. It coordinates and delivers on the WCS budget for events, membership, and board committees. The committee also manages investments, contracts, and accounts payable and receivable for WCS. This committee reviews financial statements and reports while being accountable for educating the board to conduct proper oversight to ensure the strong financial health of the organization.

The WCS Board of Directors is the governing body of volunteers responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight, and accountability to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and operates ethically and effectively. WCS Local Chapters expand opportunities for women to participate in and benefit their local communities. Each chapter hosts 4 to 6 events each year, such as panels, coffee chats, happy hours, hikes, and more! Chapters are in:

There are 5 Lead roles in each chapter, listed below. You may also choose to volunteer for a chapter, but not in a lead role.

Chapter Lead
The Chapter Lead sets the vision and direction for the local WCS community. They coordinate the leadership team, oversee chapter planning and events, and serve as the main liaison with WCS Chapter Committee. This role is ideal for someone who’s organized, collaborative, and passionate about empowering women in cleantech and sustainability in their local community.
Time commitment: ~4–6 hours/month

Events Lead
The Events Lead plans and hosts engaging experiences — from coffee meetups and hikes to panels, networking, and site tours (4–6 per year). They work closely with other leads to design events that connect, educate, and inspire members. Events can be co-hosted with various partner organizations that align with WCS and the theme. They collaborate with WCS events coordinator. 
Time commitment: ~3–5 hours/month (varies by event schedule)

Communications Lead
The Communications Lead keeps chapter members connected and informed. They manage updates on the chapter’s WCS Slack channel and collaborate with the WCS marketing coordinator to post on socials and contribute to newsletters. This role suits someone who enjoys storytelling and building community.

Time commitment: ~3–5 hours/month

Membership Lead
The Membership Lead welcomes new members, builds engagement, and helps grow the local network. They track participation, follow up with attendees, and find ways to connect members with shared interests and opportunities. They collaborate with our WCS Membership coordinator.
Time commitment: ~3–5 hours/month

Partnership Lead
The Partnership Lead develops relationships with local organizations, universities, and sponsors. They help identify co-hosts, speakers, venue partners and other cross promotional opportunities to support chapter events and expand community reach. Perfect for a natural connector with local ties in cleantech or sustainability.
Time commitment: ~3–5 hours/month

The Virtual Event Team participates in the production of all VIRTUAL events. Virtual Events Team members work directly with the Event Operations Coordinator.

We host a wide array of virtual events including (but not limited to) workshops, educational panels, and happy hours. Delivering both high-volume and high-caliber events creates many opportunities for people to benefit from WCS and our community. Our events engage volunteers, attendees, speakers, sponsors, and co-hosts alike.
