We are looking for someone with hands-on experience building and customizing WordPress websites!
The Project:
WCS is looking for a volunteer to design and build an improved Job Board that lives directly on our existing WordPress website! Our goal is to go beyond a basic list of openings and create a visually engaging, intuitive job-discovery experience where visitors can easily browse, search, sort, and filter opportunities.
Employers will submit opportunities to WCS through a form. The volunteer will help us determine the best way to structure that information within WordPress and turn it into an attractive, searchable Job Board that WCS staff can easily maintain after the initial build.
The final solution should ideally include:
A clean, visually appealing job listing page Individual job cards with key information at a glance Keyword search
Filtering and/or sorting by location, remote/hybrid/on-site status, job function or category, employment type, and experience or seniority level
Individual job detail pages or expanded listing views Employer logos
Featured or promoted job listings
Clear links to apply directly with the employer
Easy sharing of individual job opportunities
Mobile-responsive design
A straightforward workflow for WCS staff to review submitted jobs and publish approved opportunities
We would also love to explore functionality that allows users to save/bookmark jobs or email jobs to themselves or others, depending on what is feasible within the recommended solution.
What You’ll Do:
Review our existing WordPress website and Job Board workflow
Help define the structure and fields needed for job listings
Recommend the best technical approach for building the Job Board
Determine where existing WordPress tools or plugins can be used and where customization may be beneficial
Design and build the Job Board interface Configure search, filters, sorting, and other functionality
Connect the job submission process to an efficient publishing workflow
Test the experience across desktop and mobile devices
Document the basic process for WCS staff to add, edit, feature, and remove jobs
Help ensure the solution can be maintained by WCS after the project is complete
